This movie is what i thaught about thugs of Hindustan when i first heard that name. The absolutely marvellous cinematography in each and every scene is the major driving force of why this movie works. It doesnt shy away and it builds its narrative in situations which are difficult to digest.Ī child hitting his own mother only to realize how wrong he was, or a daaku hallucinating about an innocent he killed accidentally in the middle of a gunfight, there are scenes which this movie unpacks cautiously and ragingly. How they are abused and how they still emerge into vigourous women with solid vengeance hungry hearts is the best female oriented plot arc i have seen in recent times. Lives are lost and the viewers are presented with the downtrodden lives the women lived but never complained about. The movie which begins with a curse slowly diverts paths with a girl and all havoc breaks loose. There is casual black comedy and the use of appropriate language with terrific actors adding to some chuckle worthy lighter parts in this movie. It explores social stigma but maintains the horror of brutality and heartbreaking twists.ĭaakus, usually perceived to be cold hearted badasses are but God-fearing humans who are cursed by the deeds they did but were unaware about. This film personifies sonchiriya and allows it to become the driving force of all the character intensions of the movie. Now this movie has a solid plot, but moreover a message or an unadulterated statement as to how women are treated in this period and in this particular part of India.
The sense of unpredictability brings the realistic vibe of Chambal into life. It starts off with a snake and intensifies the importance of it as the movie progresses. There is a constant tension supported by a strong narrative which stretches this movie to a handful 2 hours 20 mins. Sonchiriya is a visual achievements in terms of liberalising the way scenes are shot in a typical Bollywood movie. Nothing interesting in this movie, geeting bored after 1 hour end of film is also bad.
